Chapter 03: Design Rationale

Design Rationale

The decision to choose this design for the British Cycling transformation story is rooted in a strategic blend of visual and content considerations, ensuring an optimal user experience and effective communication of the narrative. Below is a rationale for selecting this design:

  1. 1. Readable Typography:

The best readability is ensured by the typographic and font selection. After multiple iteration of font stack I have picked 2 trending fonts i.e Marcellus and Roboto. While variations in font family, size and style create a dynamic and visually interesting layout of a book, Marcellus is used for headings and titles to stand out and provide visual indication to user what the content is about. The main body content is written in clear, Roboto sans-serif fonts which enhance legibility. There are multiple reasons for implementing Roboto for the content. Below are top 3 reason for integrating:

    1. Used as system font for all Android Phones.

    2. Roboto is used in more than 26,00,000 Websites.

    3. Developed by Google in 2011 and still very popular. Roboto is used in every Google products and services, so they are easy for readers to use and identify.

  2. 2. Clean and Modern Aesthetic:

The visual appreance is quite clean and modern wrapped up in cool blue colour and a smooth light gradient as background. Since the text was initially written on the book Atomic Habits I kept visual aesthetic of book using the modern CSS tricks and dividing the content into 2 pages.

  3. 3. Focus on Readability:

For this typesetting assignment, readability was of utmost importance. Roboto font was chosen with attention for the text because Google uses it extensively as the default system font. In order for readers to enjoy reading and become completely absorbed in the story without being sidetracked, clarity is prioritised in the material.
